One of the things that I notice about a lot of Web Design firms and even creative agencies who say they bake SEO into everything they do, is that very few of them bake it into there own sites. Now I don’t want to call anyone out today but I do want to give people a quick little guide on the top five things to look for when evaluating the SEO ability of design firm that says they know SEO. I mean, if SEO is part of their overall offering, they would be silly not to SEO their own site right? Meta Descriptions Still Very Important for SEO

Today I was reading an outstanding article about Meta Descriptions by Barry Welford and I thought I would share a couple more thoughts I have on the subject. In Barry’s article he mentions about the importance that description tags play in creating the snippets that the search engines display in the SERPs (search engine results pages). And he elaborates on the importance of placing your most important keywords in the description because the snippets are drawn from the text surrounding those keywords in the Meta description. One of my favorite sites for the latest news in SEO is www.searchengineland.com . The site is run by Danny Sullivan, formerly of SearchEngineStrategies.com (where incidentally I will be writing a column soon, stay tuned for details). But one of the things (or should I say some of the things) I have noticed about Search Engine Land lately is they don’t exactly correspond to what I would define as best practices with their own SEO.
