The crucial element to any effective strategy for link building is to have a consistent ongoing campaign. Much like the fable of the tortoise and the hare, slow and steady wins the race. Incorporating link building as part of an overall SEO campaign involves deciding on a pace that is realistic and sticking with it. If you are just beginning a link campaign a good starting point is to build 3 links per week, and then gradually increase your weekly number. There are always new and inventive ways of building links. One such strategy which will be discussed here is by (more…)

Proven Spam Free Blog Comment Link Building Strategy
January 5th, 2009 by David LewallenWhy its so Important to Optimize your Global Link Navigation for Search Engine Optimization
October 10th, 2008 by Ray "Catfish" ComstockOne of the most basic steps in SEO that can really help your rankings is optimizing your global navigation template. Even though many will contend that boiler plate navigation links are weighted less than other links comparatively speaking to say a link found in a keyword focused paragraph of content, the cumulative effect of these links, especially across larger sites can be very powerful in terms of improving the signals your site sends to Google about what keywords you are relevant for. There are two main steps in optimizing your global link navigation template. (more…)
SEO Videos from OMS – Internal and External Link Building Strategies
July 23rd, 2008 by Ray "Catfish" ComstockHello again everyone. Sorry I have been MIA this week, although I did do a guest blog over at the OMS site about the 4 most common way that marketers squander resources for SEO. But I have been incredibly busy with client work, developing new internal processes for the SEO team, and putting together my OMS presentation for next Tuesday in Houston. I am happy to say that my band has been selected for Hyperfest 2008 in New Mexico which is very exciting for us, but the planning of that event is cutting into my free time (think blog time..lol). So that’s my long winded apology for taking so long to get these new link strategy videos up.
Obviously these videos are not comprehensive guides to linking but I think there is a lot of solid advice on the subject of both internal and external links that you hopefully will gleam a couple SEO tips from. Let me know what you think!
The Paid Links Debate – Why Buying Links for SEO is BAD
June 20th, 2008 by Ray "Catfish" ComstockSo today the debate about Google’s heavy hand in regard to paid links continues. I read Michael Gray’s blog today where he posts a scathing review of Google’s policies about paid links and point’s out the hypocrisy of their position. I like Michael and think he is an excellent blogger but I have to take issue with his stance here. You may accuse me of drinking too much Google Kool Aid, but I think Google’s stance on paid links is the right one. The ability for companies to buy their way into the top of organic search results completely devalues the algorithm for both Google and it’s users.
Google is who they are because their algorithm is the best that we have so far for getting relevant information from the Internet. You can argue the point if (more…)
Build Links Fast! There Is No Penalty In Getting Many Links Quickly
May 13th, 2008 by Benj Arriola
Now just before I said that, I am already wearing my bulletproof vest armor and mask with my forcefield on just in case people slam me right away without reading.
Links help in ranking
Here are a few SEO fundamentals that are considered SEO facts already my a majority number of people in the SEO industry.
- Incoming links to your website increase ranking. They are like votes of authority, trust, credibility.
- Google and many of the other search engines are against artificial link building. This is trying to influence search engines by creating so many links yourself trying to pretend many people like your site, thus linking to you.
Thus any form or kind of way you are trying to influence ranking artificially, like buying links only for the purpose of having a link for search engine ranking, or participating in various types of automated link exchanging and farming are frowned upon by search engines. And Google and other search engines are getting better and better in detecting these artificial link building activities.
Getting too many links too fast is bad! (more…)
8 Rules of Directory Submissions for SEO and Link Building
March 5th, 2008 by Ray "Catfish" ComstockRecently a client of mine expressed reservation about submitting to search engine directories as a way to increase link popularity. They were concerned that a directory listing would look like a paid link to Google and that their listing would be seen as spam. That got me to thinking about all the misinformation on the Internet today about link building in general and paid links. So I thought a blog post on the subject might help some people who were confused about this issue. (more…)
Don’t Buy Paid Links for SEO
December 5th, 2007 by Ray "Catfish" ComstockIt really couldn’t be any clearer and it really has been clear for a long time…LOL. Don’t buy paid links for the purpose of ranking highly in Google. And for that matter, don’t sell links either. I really don’t get why this is such a big surprise for most Webmasters. It’s pretty clear that ever since Page Rank has become the most powerful force in the SEO universe (and by that I mean the emergence of Google so please don’t start the “is Page Rank important?” debate, we will save that for a later time) that a link has been equivalent to a vote in the Google system. It doesn’t take a genius to understand why Google doesn’t want the people with the most money or the people who can best reverse engineer their search results to be able to manipulate their index. If Google wants their search results to be a true reflection of what people think is the best resource for a particular topic, then it makes perfect sense for them to not want to include paid links into that ranking equation. And the article above certainly illustrates that they have been clear about that for a long time. So now that their systems are doing a better job of enforcing those principles, why are so many people upset? Well obviously because the old tricks that used to work don’t work anymore..lol. I am truly sympathetic to anyone that unjustly suffers because of the unintended side effects which might be occurring because of Google’s new filters. Anytime Google penalizes a group of sites, there are bound to be a couple inadvertent problems. With an index that big, how could there not be. But for the most part, there are a lot of people who are upset because they can’t buy their way to listings anymore and now they have to get more creative with the way they present their content, market their site and promote viral linking. Anyway, I think it is obvious how I feel about the subject which is why none of my clients ever buy links for the purpose of SEO results. (more…)
